Ohio State forms the Institute on Aging to unite breadth of research across disciplines

Published on:

Over the past two and a half years, the team has worked to establish a collaborative foundation that enables researchers and clinicians to translate recent advances in longevity science into meaningful research and clinical practice while deepening the understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying human aging.

The institute aims to advance a comprehensive approach to promoting long-term health in aging populations by:

Bringing together leading faculty, basic scientists, clinical and translational researchers, and healthcare professionals from diverse disciplines—including engineering, neuroscience, and medicine—to foster interdisciplinary collaboration.

Creating new education and training opportunities for medical students, clinicians, and researchers focused on the challenges of aging and age-related diseases.

Expanding clinical trials, accelerating the development of therapies for conditions such as dementia, cancer, and cardiovascular disease, and enhancing models of patient care and caregiver support.

Investing in innovative research and prevention-focused strategies to drive scientific discovery while strengthening the legacy of The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and improving the health of the communities it serves.

The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center continues to strengthen collaboration across its extensive research programs. As part of these efforts, the Ohio State University College of Medicine's Office of Research will host a symposium on December 10, bringing together investigators in aging and elder care from a wide range of specialties, including anesthesiology, biological chemistry and pharmacology, emergency medicine, orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, physiology, and cell biology.
